This game consists of two parts: Muv-Luv Extra and Muv-Luv Unlimited. Unlimited is unlocked after you get the endings of the two main heroines (Sumika and Meiya) in Extra.
Muv-Luv Extra:

Muv-Luv Extra, the main part of Muv-Luv, takes place in the same world (and general area) as Kimi ga Nozomu Eien and Kimi ga Ita Kisetsu. The Sky Temple family restaurant is mentioned and visited, and Suzumiya Akane makes an appearance.

One day Takeru wakes up late, wondering why Sumika or Meiya didn’t wake him up this morning. Not seeing any signs of them he gets a bit worried and goes out of his house to only see the town he lived all his life in ruins. After getting past the initial shock he decides that this must be a dream and decides to enjoy it as much as he can…

I had the same problem as you, and I had to temporarily disable my virus protection before the game would install. You may want to give that a try.
For all those who have problems with the second disc (installer does not recognise it) this is what you must do:
1. change ALL your regional and unicode settings to japanese.
2. run the english patch (if you get a NSIS error right click the installer and run it in compatibility mode)
3. when asked for the 2nd disk eject and unmount muv luv extra and then mount UNLIMITED.ISO
This should install and translate the game.If you had previously installed the game through the img file make sure not only to delete the installation file (it should be named ‘age’)but also open up regedit then go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER > Software. Delete the entire “relic UGP Applications” entry there. If you dont do this the patch will think muv luv is installed even though it’s not. Hope i helped!

Hey guys, I’m having trouble getting this to run. I looked over the FAQs and I’m still having problem. I may have overlooked something though. I have the game installed, I had to use the patch, but its installed. I have my regional and unicode settings on Japanese. Yet everytime I try and run the game an error pops up labeled rUGP. I have no clue what the error says since its in Japanese, and when I close out of it, it closes out of the game. If you like I could try and post a picture of the error. Anyways, thank you for your time and help.

you have to be running windows in japanese unicode, you can change to it at control panel, reboot is required.
Also, to play the game, you still need to be in japanese unicode.
NOTE: Applocale will NOT work. You have to change your system settings.

Noob question, but how were these files split in the first place? I can’t successfully recombine them. Simply catting all the .rar files into one big one and extracting that (via 7-zip) doesn’t work, nor does extracting them individually (since any tool I use will prompt to overwrite but not to append).
What should we be doing with the .part files? There are no instructions on this page and this sort of general question isn’t addressed in the FAQ.
WinRAR has functionality to split archives in volumes of certain size – just put all parts to one folder and start extracting first part – most of tools will automatically find following parts.
Ah, noted. I actually figured that out on my own, but it took a while since I started out using 7-zip, which did not recognize the .part convention Thanks.

Hi i have a problem with the installer. If i run it without japanese locale the patch runs normaly until it asks for the 2nd disk. it doesnt accept the UNLIMITED.ISO. i testet all the solution from the comments but nothing works. and with jap locale the installer gets an NSIS error and i cant install.

i really enjoyed this game the touching parts weren’t overly heavy and the comedy parts were so funny that i had to stop playing till i got my laughter under control is there any others like this i’ve played more then a few vns
