The 58th year of Shouwa, early summer. It’s June, and the summer heat has arrived earlier than it does most years. By day there are crickets, and by night there are cicadas. We’re in Hinamizawa, a small village in the countryside.
There are fewer than two thousand people here. But every year, there is an event.
This event is a mysterious death. On a certain day in June, someone dies, and someone else goes missing. The series of deaths is connected to the upheaval surrounding the dam construction project. A murder case that was covered up is being reenacted. Is it a conspiracy? A coincidence? Or perhaps a curse? Someone who was supposed to be there isn’t.
Someone who wasn’t supposed to be there is. Someone who was alive last night is dead now. And someone who is here right now isn’t alive. So, there is no way to avert tragedy. There is no choice but to give up.
But don’t give up. Only you can stand up to this.
For anyone having problems with steam opening up, copy codex.ini and steam_api.dll from Higurashi hou chapter 1. That’s the only way I managed to make it work so far.

So, I’m having the same problem everyone else.. when I try to open the game it closes after 2 seconds and steam opens. I’ve tried to log out steam but doesn’t work, what should I do?
this always opens steam for me. i have already tried it with steam open (it switches to steam and opens the game page for 2nd chapter) and steam closed (opens steam login screen)
For some reason ep3 just wouldn’t work with the included crack. To my surprise copying the steam_api.dll and codex.ini from a downloaded ep1 made it work, though.

So admin, i make sure i close my steam account, click exit at the bottom right, and disconnect the internet. But the steam stills pops up then try to login my account and i can’t get it to play..
despite steam client being completely closed from the bottom left tap near the time and date. it still seems to open steam login.
No matter what i do, i can`t get this vn to work. Double click the exe but the game closed in two seconds and the window to log to steam
appeared.
You need to log into steam for it to work.
Actually, it’s the other way around – make sure your steam client is closed while running the game.

This is literally a “visual NOVEL”. A book. Don’t expect interactivity. There are no choices. Only text, pics and music. Just that you people know what you are downloading.
But it still among the best VNs on this site
So i noticed there’s a motherload of higurashi games on this site, any specific order i should be playing them in for full story experiance?
Higurashi Ch.1 Onikakushi, Higurashi Ch.2 Watanagashi, Higurashi Ch.3 Tatarigoroshi and Higurashi Ch.4 Himatsubushi.
That are the first 4 chapters and they are all included in the Higurashi – When They Cry ( Chapters 1-4 ) post on the download list. The ones called Higurashi When They Cry Hou and posted separately are actually the same 4 chapters but with a new translation and updated art.
After that comes Meakashi Ch.5, Tsumihoroboshi Ch.6, Minagoroshi Ch.7 and Matsuribayashi Ch.8. Sometimes soon they too will get a version with updated art so you can wait for it or just us a patch that adds the PS2 art which if you ask me is better then the new art. To get the PS2 art and music patch just google Higurashi tweak and look at the wiki page.
