Muv-Luv

Muv-Luv

Shirogane Takeru is a typical high school student with a lazy attitude and a love for the virtual reality mecha battle game Valgern-on. Even though he didn’t really wanted it, he is popular in school mainly due to his daily fights with his osananajimi (Sumika) attracting too much attention. His life takes an unexpected turn when he finds a girl (Meiya) he doesn’t remember ever meeting in his bed one morning. Whom later revealed to be the heiress of one of the biggest zaibatsu. She immediately moves to his house and starts changing his life for the good with her one-track-mind and unlimited resources…

One day Takeru wakes up late, wondering why Sumika or Meiya didn’t wake him up this morning. Not seeing any signs of them he gets a bit worried and goes out of his house to only see the town he lived all his life in ruins. After getting past the initial shock he decides that this must be a dream and decides to enjoy it as much as he can…

Note: This is 2016 re-release, with “Director’s Cut” patch (restoring 18+ content that wasn’t present in Steam release). Compared to previously fantranslated version, it features additional content from PS3 version of the game, higher resolution and improved compatibility with modern systems.

What are the additional routes in this re-release?
NeptuneReply
Haruko,Yuuhi (meiya sister),Kasumi,Elena,Irma,Akane from what i can find
YangReply
Route for extra or unlimited ?
Is there a walkthrough for them ?
NeptuneReply
I don't know m8, hell im not even sure that if all the char. that i mentioned are all correct if there is really a additional routes
BorkReply
Huh? New routes?

I thought the "new content" consisted of 4-5 new CGs which replaces scenes which previously used sprites?
NeptuneReply
Well admin stated this "it features additional routes from PS3 version of the game" so idk really....
YourMomReply
The PS3 version had no new routes. The only difference really, aside from censoring to make it all-ages, was a different OP, images scaled up and cropped to *almost* widescreen instead of 4:3 and a few new CGs for scenes which used to use sprites. IIRC this is also supposed to have the blinking eyes/moving mouths like Alternative had added.
adminReply
That's correct. I updated description and removed reference to extra "routes".

thanks ivan

CG still cropped?

it's been updated to 16:9 resolution

Is it worth re downloading this? I mean if it adds content to unlimited I know it is but extra is just downright a crappy romantic comedy and I really don't won't to repeat it.
Zac AtieReply
To be honest, Alternative is really crappy too. It's littered with crappy writing, and Shirogane is unbearable with his autistic screeching and inane, invasive inner dialogues.
ShadowBreakerReply
Wether you like Alternative or not that's your own opinion, I like it because of the deep politics involved and the way o played from inside a mecha really gave a unique twist to an otherwise milked and tired genre. I really liked Alternative myself, but I know other people that didn't, it's a matter of tastes and preferences.
AnonymousReply
Deep politics? Sure, if you count that bitch doctor manipulating anything and everything to get them do what she wanted, killing off no small number of people in the process and then pretentiously staring off into the distance at the end of the last arc.
And if you mean the dealings of the first one in MLA, it's only implied but you never see it happening unlike in Aoki Hagane no Arpeggio where the upper echelons are actually shown making decisions based on political and other factors.

No, Zac Atie is right. The comedy in MLE is too overblown to be funny, MLU is more interesting but can't save the game by itself, and MLA is just a massive trainwreck with the most horrific deus ex machina driven plot I've seen in VNs ever with a protag who makes Ikari Shinji look like an awesome guy. Yes, you can still like MLA if you wanted, but it doesn't change the fact that it's still a crappy and way overrated game.
ShadowBreakerReply
I the hell am I getting flaked just because I liked Alternative? Can't a guy have different opinion? Sure I like MLA, big fucking deal, deal with it, I may like it but if I had to make a top 5 it wouldn't make my top 5, hell the best VN I have ever played is Majikoi (and all its sequel and fan disks). Sure I liked MLA but I don't think it's the best VN ever made. What's wrong with me enjoying a VN you didn't? srsly, some people
AnonymousReply
Appearantly you didn't read what I posted because I said you can like it if you want, it just doesn't reach up to the hype around it at all. Seriously, some people get triggered and they don't even know why.
ShadowBreakerReply
You're rigth I didnt read the full comment, my bad for over reacting too. And then again hype is a very subjective thing, wether it's justified or not it depends on the player, I liked it but from what people were saying at the time I was kind of expecting something more epic, sure it had some slick animations considering it was released in 2006, but if you ask me when it comes to the Muv Luv series I takes Schwarzesmarken over Alternative everyday all day
AnonymousReply
MLA killed any kind of interest I had in that novel and its spin-offs, so can't say if it was better as I didn't watch it.
ShadowBreakerReply
It is better, it's more deep and has a better setting imo, the fact that the BETAs exist and are a problem but the game doesn't solely revolve around that fact but also in the fact that there are still nation fighting for power and control even when facing uter destruction makes it cooler with you fighting for what is basicly the remnants of Nazi Germany, the secret police Stasi attempting a coup d'etat and both the americans ignoring the germans and the soviets trying to conquer germany in the face of an already desperate situation makes it deeper since it not only only focus on your unit, the 666th batallion but also on the state of the world in the face of uter extinction. The only thing I didn't like the MC at first because he is a dick, but as the story goes on he matures and chnges his way of thinking for better. Overall it was just a better experience. Idk if ou can read japanese tough, but in case you can't I trully recomend it if it gets translated
-_-Reply
Uh, isn't it common sense to love Alternative? I was sobbing like a little bitch by the end. Splendid plot, godly ost, awesome character designs.
AnonymousReply
Uh, no. And out of all those you mentioned only the OST was good, the rest was terrible.
soumynonAReply
Meh, you're welcome to your own opinion.
AnonymousReply
Says the guy who presents his opinion as facts. Funny.
AnonymousReply
Ah sorry, wrong guy. Though it's not just an opinion I have as it can be supported by clear facts.
zReply
I feel really sleepy. So sleepy...

"I don't like it therefore it's overrated." *unsheathes katana of "facts"*
"Uh, it's common sense to like MLA."summons daggers of fanboyism"

*counter-attacks*
*parry*
*insert typical shounen dialog*

"What!!"
...
And that is when they realized their fight was pointless. None of them has a way of winning because their weapons are made of the same thing, "subjective opinions"
AnonymousReply
I could list facts until they fill a phone book but that would involve analysing scenes and elements turning this into incredibly long posts full of massive spoilers which I have no way to cover here from those who don't want to see them, so I have to refrain from doing so.

This is not a matter of just disliking something. I know exactly why I dislike it.

Which means you are wrong when you say I can't win, because I could. I simply don't see it worth getting into arguments over this by spoiling everything for someone who just wants to find some info on Muv-Luv and accidentally gets more than he was asking for. So please try to come up with a better analogy next time.
We need more people like you in the world!Reply
Such a nice person!

I thought i was the only one that didnt like Alternative. I liked MLU but the plot of alternative was a total mess and completely lost me after a few hour. Also the protag was way worst than shinji and bringed the game down even more for me.
ijenReply
Hey don't bother with the haters man! Muv-luv is one of the best Vns ever whether they like it or not.
AnonymousReply
How about no?

This was one of the funniest and most entertaining VNs I've ever played. Highly recommended. I prefer the original Muv-Luv to pretentious and overly dramatic Muv-Luv alternative.
sdfReply
I personally loved Alternative. The quality of plot, ost, and everything else is head and shoulders above the majority of VNs out there. There's a reason MLA has the highest rating in VNDB.
VyrReply
I can see WHY Alternative is loved but, perhaps it may shock it's legions of rabid fans to know that not everyone is into stories that take completely dark turns and spit in your happy memories for fun. Sometimes we just want a funny rom-com instead of a story about aliens and human-butchering.
sdfReply
Mm. I say it depends on mood.
ThaliaReply
I'll pass. Muv-Luv is awesome for a lot of reasons but the character routes aren't one of them.
etiehrReply
There are no additional routes in this version of Muv-Luv. I am unsure from where that conclusion was drawn. This is the official English release, which features updated visuals and a completely new translation. In my opinion as a longtime Muv-Luv fan, the original fan translation was superior, but that release is a compatibility nightmare for most modern operating systems while this release is guaranteed compatible with Windows 7, 8, 8.1, and 10.
ShadowBreakerReply
So no additional content? I read on VNDB the only thing the PS3 ver adds is a different OP (I actually prefer the original by JAM Project) and it runs on a different engine. Also, I played on 7 and I had no problems with the original release for both this and Alternative
etiehrReply
Yes, the engine is different in order to be compatible with modern systems. The last OS Muv-Luv "worked" on was Windows 7, and while you and I got it to work, not every user of 7 was able to. Any OS beyond that and it just fails.

It does have a different OP, but concerning JAM Project you are thinking of Muv-Luv Alternative. This is Muv-Luv Extra+Unlimited.
InfernoReply
Soooo... Basically this is the STEAM translated version but re-added the 18+ scenes, and also with PS3 scenes?

But I thought the PS3 version is 17+, thus the PS3 exclusive scenes were basically replacements for the 18+ scenes... Much like Fate/Stay Night Realta Nua...

So I'm confused on what exactly do we have here?...

Is this really an official 'director cut' or some fangroup bunching up everything they have on the Muv-Luv and delivering it in one go?
etiehrReply
Correct, this is the Steam release with a patch to re-add the sex scenes and un-crop the CGs that were cropped for cleavage. It is official, and sold as the "Director's Cut" patch by the company responsible for the Western release.
