I’ve decided on new two interchangeable filehost mirrors the site will be using. It’s going to be RapidShare and MediaFire.
Those companies have completely different business model than our previous hosts, and Rapidshare already won few big cases in court, so they should survive recent up-turn in filehosting sites.
In the next few days I’ll be uploading files to those hosts (Still gotta decide on filesize – MF allows only 200MB, while Rapidshare allows bigger files – need to decide whether to go with 200MB interchangeable mirrors ( like it used to be) or Fewer parts on rapidshare/more parts for mediafire, non-interchangeable mirrors.
Unfortunatelly, as filehosts will no longer be paying for downloads, covering site bandwidth costs ( 15-25k UV /90-130k Pageviews /350-450k hits daily), I’ll be adding ads on site to fund it. ( I’m actually considering donations as alternative, but I’d need to speak to lawyer about it first tho).
Torrents are also a possibility, but users would have to seed them – yesterday alone, you guys downloaded over 3 Terrabytes of games – no affordable host i know would let me use 90TB of bandwidth monthly.

Guys … you have more than half of the links to the Eroge – broken (Filesonic and Fileserve). Will You add them (eroge & VN’s) to the new filehosts?
Give Admin some time.
Just think about how many games there are here. Then how big each game is about. So if the Admin needs to upload 200MB for every .rar file then it would take at least a month. Or he doesn’t need a life or sleep to get all up faster.
So be patient young one, in the end we will be enjoying the fruit, blood and tears of one man who tries his best to please everyone on the eroge scene here.
We may help each others if we still have the original files we had dl in the past from the previous file servers and upload it ourself for everyone.
Wow thanks zzidane, I can’t belive I used to download each file manually. Jdownloader I download 7 files in 1 hour normally it would have taken me more like 4 hours of 45 min interval monitoring. Now I just copy links, start downloads, bam one hour later done :O
That was with mediafire, haven’t try’d with rapidshare yet.

that’s because mediafire supports multiple connections and parallel downloads so you can download it at full speed.
Rapidshare doesn’t support either and has a delay between downloads.
On the other side, mediafire has much slower upload speed, slowing me down a bit. Anyway – over 1/3 of all uploads have already been reuploaded.
Truly glad I could help. But yea, Mediafire has always been much faster to download from comparing to other sites. As for Rapidshare, the wait time between downloads will still be there but at least u won’t have to keep watch over the downloads. Things are so much easier automatic.

Btw, admin, have you heard of ACTA? It’s basically a global, inter-country version of SOPA/PIPA, and it’s worse because
1. Many countries including the US and Japan are already supporting it and want to/have already signed it (with the lack of info due to the government being assholes, I’m not exactly sure).
2. Once it’s applied to our government, due to its properties, it has the power to permanently set itself into the government until it’s razed to the ground and reset.

I heard of ACTA, major difference as it is a treaty it was enacted bye executive order. I hear that some in the EU are trying to stop it though.
The Powers that be are definitely trying to sink their claws into the last bastion of freedom on the planet, which ironically is cyberspace a place that isn’t real in the normal sense.
The Patriot act was signed to fight the ‘terroists’ and americans lost freedom and privacy because of it. ACTA will have the same effect for everyone in the world because it is a international treaty, not just the americans will suffer under ACTA, but everyone online in the world, will as well.
Protecting intellectual property rights of the wealthy top percent does not justify the worldwide loss of freedom for all of us.
We have to do something, but sense our leaders are either in the top percent or in the pockets of the top percent.

How about you use Filesplitter for mediafire mirrors, that way the old files are inter-exchange-able with the mediafire links?
It should be possible to make the mirrors work with each other despite the different max file sizes in that you create the 200mb files for Mediafire and then make those archive parts in a folder and create 500mb parts for Rapidshare. Sure, it’s a tad more work but in the end people can decide what they want – free stuff for a tad more work or longer wait times. It would just be required to know which files are where in the bigger split files – hence those should be created without any compression so it can be figured out with simple math.

I must say, the initial intention of this SOPA is actually good. Piracy by any means, isn’t a right thing to do. it could kill creativity, and so on and on and on…
me myself truly feels that this piracy kind of thing is great..well, for end-user like me. what I don’t understand that those Company, Publisher, or whoever they are..never reflect and question themselves, why did their products get pirated? the price tag is unreasonably high maybe? or the product’s quality doesn’t worth the price? or, is it painfully hard to get? or is it so overly popular that it gets pirated? or because it was pirated that get the products so popular?
they better improve themselves first before trying to stop online piracy…
Advertisements aren’t much hassle to me, and I think aren’t certainly to others too, so I believe Ads won’t pose much problem and you, Admin, can have them on the site for as long as you want. Donations would be good alternative but I’m having second thoughts on that. Also, seems like FS and FSC just got their balls shrunk. In my opinion, Mediafire is an awesome alternative. I support that one, wholeheartedly. Surely you’ll have some trouble splitting files here and there but MF has been quite the file-host for me for years and I haven’t had any problems with it. By the way, I’ve heard of a certain webhost called Embedupload which, if I remember correctly, lets you upload a single file to multiple file-hosts. I don’t have more info but you can go ahead and check it out. Also, I thank you very much for not disbanding due to threats and file-deletion. I love this place.

Torrents may be the best bet. Along with helping out the site, it could also raise the speed of downloads, as long as we seed. Torrenting seems to be the best alternative to keeping this site alive.

I think torrents would be a great idea in my opinion. You should make a post about the ads so everyone will know to disable Adblock. I’m doing that now, but I don’t think everyone will unless it’s addressed.

Though I agree we appreciate this site greatly, you are understaffed in a terrible way. You trying to fully restructure and reupload your entire site and answer the questions of everyone who asks them? The speed you can do both is not high, even for the most skilled person in the world at running a website. Your site is not bad in any way save one: it’s too slow to respond to change.
Also could you put where you got the original download from? Half of us could get our questions answered just from going to the people who originally translated it. And don’t tell me you do it yourself, nobody has that much free time or works that fast.
From personal experience I know just how much more you can get done if you hire people to take care of your tedious tasks while you focus on the more important thngs. And yes I do have a reason for saying all this and wishing to help for no charge.
I believe the Admin has stated many times before, but… this site is one of many he opperates and it’s completely out of personal interest – not for making any real profit – that he does it. This site is more of a hobby than any sort of real business for him, so the idea of hiring people to help run it would sort of cross a barrier that he’s thusfar avoided.
Updates are a bit slow because erogedownload takes 2nd priority to his other endeavours which make up his actual income. Just be happy and grateful as hell that he’s managed to keep together this for so long, grown it so large, and puts so much effort into it already.
You say that like I don’t already know it. Frankly, I am the type of person who programs for a hoppy and has no real want for money. By hire I meanhire in the same sense you hire a volunteer/ The underlings work for no other reason then they want to.

Most of us just wanna see the site grow peoperly. I think anyway, I won’t claim to know the minds of everyone else.
It’s just limitation of current engine and scripts i am using – if i wanted someone to help out i’d have to give him full editor access on site as well as shell access.
Once i’m done reuploading and open up the forum everyone will be welcome to post their mirrors, and later, if it’s needed i can promote several most active and responsible-looking users to moderators. Even non-moderators will be able to post their mirrors as replies as well.
Well I figured you wouldn’t have too many qualms about the idea if you consider it a hobby and gain nothing from it.

Thanks admin for everything you are doing.Almost all of these games are imposible to find in my country so i’ve got no choice but to get them from sites like this one.Torrents are probably the best choice considering most people will do anything to help the community here.
Other sites are using compress files with password protection, you can name the archives like 5ed43323dxfd.rar for example, is a useful method and persecutors will have a hard time to found the files.
Sorry for write again, other sugestion is to buy a account in depositfiles or other site, we can send you the money via paypal o google checkout, I would like to find other methods very far from USA, but I don’t know other sites that we can use for make the donations and that we can trust for send the money

My home net is 64Mbit/2Mbit, but i’m using server to store and upload files, and it has 100Mbit upload speed. However mediafire limits upload speed to 250kb/s, but i’m uploading 6 files at once.

Doing a mass-reupload like this , there’s bound to be hiccups (If indeed that’s even updated for new links) , just be patient and perhaps try to just post what’s corrupt/Broken so that Admin can see to it once all the uploads are done.

I just want say thanks for all your hard work Admin its much appreciated!! I’ve managed to play a couple of great VN’s from here that aren’t avaliable for sale domestically.
Gah. What a mess. I now have a useless lifetime SonicFile subscription. Glad to see you’ve found a solution. Mediafire is great, but I’m not sure how long the files will last as they are pretty thorough with cleaning stuff. Probably best to use numbers as file names like (10001.part1.rar) etc. Rapidshare is pretty good as is deposit files, but DF has a huge wait time between DLs.
It’s smart to wait & see how it all turns out. I know some sites are blocking countries. As for ads/donations – just make sure you keep the money separate and dedicated to covering costs to be safe. That way you’re not “profiting” off of this.
A last resort might be IRC, but you’d have to provide a bot for that and get a channel. Frankly, that’s better than a torrent IMO. Getting people to seed and keep old files is pretty tough to do.
Whatever you end up doing – thanks for doing all of this. I’ve enjoyed several of the VNs here and would never have done so (or even known about these sorts of things) without this site.

No, I’m not blocking anyone from using the site (With one exception – few months ago some dude thought it’ll be funny to repeatadly wget “Sengoku Rance” cover image about 130k times, wasting a lot of server resources and gigabytes of bandwidth – he got ip banned, but he was from different country than you, so i don’t think it is the case here).
Do you get any kind of error when you try to visit page from there?

Really? everything I’ve gotten of of media fire was always in good condition try redownloading the files one at a time. Takes longer but you know if your internet wasn;t to blame.
